  • Yield: Approximately 12 servings

Description

Blue velvet cake is a whimsical delight featuring a soft, rich texture and vibrant blue hue, crowned with creamy frosting. Perfect for celebrations of any kind!

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vegetable oil
  • Buttermilk
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Blue food coloring gel
  • Cream cheese (for frosting)
  • Butter (for frosting)
  • Powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round baking pans or line with parchment paper.
  2. 2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. 3. In another bowl, mix sugar and vegetable oil until blended. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract. Mix in blue food coloring until desired color is achieved.
  4. 4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined to avoid over-mixing.
  5. 5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. 6. For the frosting, beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
